090: 'ZAmbie

We ate so much pizza from Fox's last week, which is down the block from our new place in Orland. Seriously any more and we might've turned into one of these!

089: Blossom

I watched this show all the time when I was little. Nicole got the box set of seasons 1 and 2 for Christmas and I'm not ashamed to admit it I spent an entire Saturday afternoon last week watching it by myself while drawing up this week's cardBORED sketches.

088: Lobo

The Main Man! Lobo is an awesome character. I'm kind of sad that the movie adaption starring The Rock went away. I would've loved to see what he did with the character.

087: Moss, The IT Crowd

Nicole loves this show and most of all loves, Moss, played by the great Richard Ayoade.

082: Gollum

His prescioussssssss. The Hobbit is out on Blu-Ray this week. Did y'all pick it up? I wasn't really a fan of The LOTR Trilogy but I did dig Andy Serkis' performance as Gollum. It set the bar high for performance capture and visual effects.

080: Pinocchio

I had a thought. What if in some weird twisted Disney fairy tale tie-in the apple that the wicked witch got for Snow White was picked off of Pinocchio's nose. The reason it was poisonous was because he lied too much and to break the spell Snow White needs a kiss, an honest gesture of true love. That'd be cool right? No one steal that idea, thanks. LOL.

079: Booger

Dudley Dawson AKA Booger, portrayed by Curtis Armstrong, is one of those movie characters that you don't forget. The movie, Revenge of The Nerds and it's sequel was watched a lot when I was younger. It was one of the popular comedies back in it's heyday. I never claimed to be a nerd but I dug all these characters when I was a kid. They were funny, smart, and hilariously awkward. I found myself relating to them more than the supposed "cool popular" kids who tortured them. I'm surprised a reboot/remake hasn't been made but I don't think it would work now. Maybe if it was called Revenge of the Jocks. Oh sick burn.

078: Colossus

I always liked the look of Colossus. I like drawing these large characters because you can have fun with their shapes. Since he is metallic and muscular, it's fun to play with hard points and angles in the face as well as the roundness of his body.

077: Fionna & Cake

Fionna & Cake from Adventure Time. I've been reading the comic mini-series from Kaboom and it's fantastic!

075: Samara, The Ring

It's Saturday and I'll be at Dan Con Comic Con from 10am-4pm. It's at the Orland Park Civic Center. You can click here for more info.

Dan Con is a great local comic show that's right in my backyard. I did some horror themed sketch cards for the raffle that will be taking place. So since my contribution is horror themed, I thought I'd make today's sketch horror themed too.

I don't like scary movies but I do love it when a good movie can surprise me. This movie was really good, better than the Japanese original, I feel. Sadly the American sequel didn't live up to the greatness of Ringu 2. Either way I remember seeing half of this movie in the theater. The other half I was watching my eyelids.

073: Mega Man

I remember there being this code for Megan Man 2 where you needed a second controller. You could jump into pits and not die. It pretty much made you invisible as long as you had a second person using the other controller. These games were flippin' hard and frustrating but the level designs and bosses were so great.

072: Toad

...really Toad, again? How many dang castles do you guys have? On to the next level!

071: Cyclops (Uncanny X-Men)

Anyone digging the new look for Cyclops currently in Uncanny X-Men? I think it's pretty awesome. I haven't read the new series but I am digging the recent Astonishing title. Everyone loves time travel right?

070: The Copper Kid

Here' an oldie but a goodie. Anyone remember SILVERHAWKS? I loved this show growing up and loved even more were the cool metallic space toys. I was a big fan of The Copper Kid and Bluegrass. My older brother had Monstarr where when you squeezed his legs his face would flip. Toys were awesome back in the day. I actually colored over the white ink with crayon and it gave the highlights more of the metallic look I was going for.

069: The Flash

Sorry for the quick posts lately. I am in the process of moving and wedding-ing (?), so I haven't gone too much in depth with some of these. Not that they need it but I do like the descriptions and the stories of how I got to a particular sketch. Usually it's something movie related.  Like today's sketch, I watched the animated flick JLA: DOOM and there was this cool bit with THE FLASH where he couldn't stop running or he would blow up. It's like he was the movie, SPEED. At one point he was running on water so he was kind of like SPEED 2: CRUISE CONTROL... see what I did there?

Anyway, I was messing around with the gesture of running and really playing with the exaggeration and I think I achieved a good sense of fluidity and motion in a single image. If you really push the principles of animation you can evoke more life into your pieces. Especially ones that show some form of action.

068: The Green Goblin

Chris Cooper was just announced as the new Norman Osborn in Marc Webb's THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2. I am confident he will do an amazing job but I absolutely loved Willem Dafoe in the role. Although, that costume was kind of lame.

064: The Beast

I love BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. It was one of my favorite animated films growing up. The characters were fun to draw and the soundtrack was infectious, singing along while learning how to draw Cogsworth and Mrs. Potts. It was an influential movie because it made me try and draw these characters over and over because I loved them so much. The idea of constantly drawing and repetition became very valuable to me in my later years.

063: The Brave Little Toaster

The fact that someone gave household items personality and emotions just captured my imagination as a kid. Watching this movie when I was little really opened the world of animation to me. I was hooked from that point on.

062: cheetah

Me: What should I do for Sunday's sketch?
Nicole: Um...like original or known characters.
Me: Whichever.
Nicole: ......oh a cheetah.
Me: ... what else?
Nicole: How about a skateboarder doing skate boarding moves. That'd be cool.
Me: ...
Nicole: Or a cheetah.

061: Predator

PREDATOR is one of those genre mash up movies. I love that it starts out as this mercenaries for hire war movie and then all of a sudden this creature shows up and starts killing shit. Classic.

Also here's a little (un)known fact. The Muscles from Brussels himself, JCVD played the Predator for something like 9 days. He left production because he couldn't do the helicopter kick. Just kidding.

Oh man, imagine if Arnold yells. "GET TO THE CHOPPA!" Then Van Damme (in the Predator suit) repeats saying, CHOPPA, and then does the helicopter kick to his face! Boom. Credits.

060: Urkel

I liked the design of yesterday's sketch with the giant word balloon. I thought I'd make this more of a common thing on the blog. So here's one more to end of the week. That damn, Urkel. Hope this makes you laugh, TGIF!
