059: Hey yoouuuu guyssss!

Sloth, because why the heck not. I love this movie. I grew up watching The Goonies and can watch it over and over again. It really captured the spirit of youth and adventure. What I'm saying is YES I looked for pirates and sunken treasure all the while being chased by gangsters when I was little. Didn't you?

058: The Crow

There's been a lot of talk about a remake to THE CROW. That doesn't sit well with me.

057: Ash Williams

Tagging up on my Spider-Man post from yesterday. You know who was consistently awesome in Raimi's Spidey Trilogy? Bruce Campbell. You know what's even awesome-r? EVIL DEAD. Hail to the King, baby.

056: Spider-Man

Happy Monday folks! Marc Webb released an image of the new Spider-Man suit for AMAZING 2 all over the interwebs...heh heh. Oh what big eyes he has!

I always loved drawing a big eyed Spidey and using the mask eyes to convey expression. I think it's a cool thing they do in the comics and something I use whenever I draw the web slinger. Here's to a productive week spider-friends!

055: Red Hood

This past week I did some #cardBORED sketches of The Bat and his family. I didn't include all the members so I thought I'd throw up a sketch of RED HOOD.

054: Django Unchained

Happy Saturday everyone! I am going to be spending the whole day at the movie theater celebrating Nicole and I's first date ever with the AMC Best Picture Showcase. It is our favorite time of the year for movies and we've made this event a tradition that we will happily continue into our married life.

So to celebrate us going to the movies here's a quick sketch of DJANGO UNCHAINED one of the films nominated for Best Picture this year. Quentin's western/southern hybrid is brutally violent packed with incredibly performances and an angry Samuel L. Jackson. This could quite possibly be Quentin's best film. So good. Go see this f*ckin' thing.

053: Tony Chu (CHEW)

CHEW is another great comic in my pull box. Simply put Detective Tony Chu is a cibopath, which means he gets a psychic impression from the things he eats. So if he eats a piece of the victims of the murders he's investigating, he can basically tell who did it. It's weird and f'n awesome.

This is very high on my recommend list, the writing is brilliant and the artwork is fantastic. Do yourself a favor and pick this up in trades or hardcover collections or be a sucker like me and get every issues cause it's simply awesome and I can't wait. Chew is done by JOHN LAYMAN and ROB GUILLORY.

052: Reed Gunther

Earlier last year I got into the great all ages comic, REED GUNTHER. It was a fantastic story set in the west about a bear-riding cowboy. It was fantastical, filled with monsters, zombies, cowboys, and well bears. (oh my) Later in that same year, I had the pleasure of meeting Chris Houghton, artist on Reed Gunther who's brother Shane, also writes. Such a wonderful comic duo and Chris was great to talk to. I look forward to more Reed adventures! Here's my take on Reed and his trusty bear, STERLING.

051: Christian Walker

I love POWERS. It's basically the sum of every great cop show but with super heroes. Not sure how the TV adaptation on FX will turn out but I know the comic recently evolved into POWERS: BUREAU and am excited to get my copy of issue 1.

Here's a sketch of the main character, Det. Christian Walker.

050: LDB

!!! I made it to 50. 50 days on the cardBOREDsketch box. I thought I'd celebrate by doing  a sketch of one of my favorite comics, The Li'l Depressed Boy. I got to meet Sina Grace, artist of LDB, last year in Detroit. Earlier in the year, I was asked by S. Steven Struble, the writer of LDB, to submit a pinup(s) for the book. Such great opportunities and wonderful creators to talk to.

049: Sweet Tooth

I thought I'd share characters from some of my favorite comic series this week. Today is Jeff Lemiere's SWEET TOOTH, a post apocalyptic tale about animal hybrid children.

048: Mr. Freeze

MR. FREEZE is a great Batman villain. So much depth and character, a tortured soul. If you don't believe me check out the Batman: TAS episode, Heart of Ice.

047: Harvey Two-Face

The only morality in a cruel world is chance. Unbiased. Unprejudiced. Fair. - Harvey Two Face

046: Poison Ivy

I noticed I haven't drawn any DC characters yet. Here's a Poison Ivy, I thought it would be fun to try and fill the whole board with her red hair. I think Batman has the best rogue's gallery, such a lively cast of characters and jokers...well just one. heh

045: Daredevil

Happy Valentine's Day! Remember when DAREDEVIL came out on Valentine's day? (2003) I liked that movie. Not sure if it holds up over time. It's kind of cool to think that Daredevil (Affleck) married Elektra (Garner) in the end. Anyways I had fun playing with crayons and different reds with this. Hope you dig.

044: Senor Avocado and the chip dip sombrero

Say what? Yeah I don't know but how awesome would this character be? I love guacamole, chips, and salsa. YUM!

043: Venom

Lately I've been having fun with proportions on characters. Venom is another character that I absolutely have fun drawing. He's such a huge mass of blackness. I have fun playing around with the dripping tar-like texture of that symbiote.

042: Fezzik

I only dog paddle. - Fezzik

THE PRINCESS BRIDE is on my top ten list of all time favorite movies.

041: Michonne

The Walking Dead comes back tonight! That is all. Here's Michonne looking like a BAMF.

040: Chuck vs. the #cardBOREDsketch

I got Nicole into CHUCK and she loves it! We are currently on Season 3 and moving right along. This was such a great show that really made geek culture cool, the way The Big Bang Theory does now.

039: Iron Man and the Hulk

I love playing around with proprtions and seeing what kind of fun shapes I can pull out of a drawing. Iron Man and the Hulk are great characters to do this with. I thought this turned out pretty fun.

037: Zombie Peanuts

I was eating peanuts today and thought this was funny. I always have a cracked peanut or two in the bunch. Watch out MR. PLANTERS!!!

036: He-Man

There's this really great He-Man game for the iPhone that my older brother turned me on to. A straight up hack n' slash.

My niece, who just turned 4, is really into She-ra and showed me her new She-ra toy at our Super Bowl party. I had a lot of He-Man toys when I was a kid too, but who can forget that Masters of The Universe flick with Dolph Lundgren... well actually a lot of people did.

035: Walken

I picked up the film Seven Psychopaths over the weekend which has a great performance from Christopher Walken. The movie was a surprise for me as I got worn out by the film's trailer and promotions towards it's release. So I decided to pass but began hearing how awesome it was from friends who have seen it. Here's a feeble attempt at a Walken sketch. These can't all be winners, folks. I tried to play around and really exaggerate his features but also tried too hard to make it look like him.

Sometimes when you just focus on the features of the face that really stand out and push the exaggeration, then playfulness of the caricature comes through and that resemblance you are looking for just happens naturally.

034: Spock

Are you out of your Vulcan mind?! Is anyone pumped for Star Trek Into Darkness? It's one of the movies I am anxious to see this year. The Star Trek universe has been in and out of my childhood. I am not a huge fan of the series or the movies but growing up with older brothers who's afternoon past time was watching episodes of The Next Generation, I knew of the characters and their stories. So when J.J. Abrams hopped on board for this reboot/prequel I was as curious and excited as most. LOST was popular and J.J. had shown directing chops with Mission: Impossible III, I have been quite fond of his work since then.

033: ParaNorman

I had the opportunity to check out the flick, ParaNorman and thought it is fantastic. I have a soft heart for stop motion animation and the folks over at Laika have made an incredible movie. I can't even imagine the amount of man hours that went into every single second of this work. The film is currently nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature and it quickly climbed up a few spots on that list for me. Check it out if you haven't yet. It's a great film.

032: Ink

TGIF!!! It's been a fun week here in the sketch box. This drawing made me realize that I would probably be a terrible tattoo designer. Although I have designed some tattoos in my day, those were at least specific ideas clients wanted in my art style. This lighting with clouds and an umbrella sleeve I came up with here is utter crap. Oh well, I still think the drawing turned out great. Have a weekend folks!
